Leek Show & Sale 2020

October 2020 | Judge: Graham Brindley
Leek Show & Sale 102020

Society Show & Sale sees Shorthorns to £2040

A fantastic entry of 90 Shorthorns for the Autumn Society Show and Sale at Leek attracted great interest with trade swift for all categories including youngstock.

The judge Graham Brindley picked out a powerful third calver Amber Favourite Claire 75 GP82 from the Amber Herd of Messrs Hole to top the cow class with a heifer Irthingvale Ronson Meg from Graham and Barbara Bell coming first in the heifer class. Champion was eventually awarded to the Amber Tornado daughter from Messrs Hole. Out of an 85 point dam, she was sold giving 38kg and was secured by a local purchaser for £1800.

However it was a fantastic heifer from the Leisure Herd of Messrs Howe of Buxton by Rantonhall Aubrey that created most interest. After spirited bidding she was eventually clinched by D Green of Lach Dennis for £2040 who also took a second from the same home at £1700.

Messrs Hole saw their heifer Amber Lucina 108 reach £1940 to join the Foldspride Herd of M Tidmarsh with another Dainty Princess 278 to £1700.

In-calf Heifers reached £1500 for Cotonhall Ironman Lady from Rob Kite purchased by the Irhingelt Herd of Thomas Moscrop of Irthington, Carlisle. Yearlings topped at £680 from the Misterton Herd of S J Cartwright and calves to £460 from the Quarnford Herd of Messrs Tunnicliffe.

It was a really successful sale highlighting the continuing popularity of the Shorthorn breed. The Spring Show and Sale at Leek is set for Tuesday 20th April 2021.
