2022 Judges Profile – Duncan Hunter

Duncan is from Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire, just north of London.

He is the founder and owner of Hunter Dairy Consulting, a consultancy firm advising on breeding programmes, farm diversification, and future planning advice. Duncan is also currently providing some Field Services to the Ayrshire Cattle Society and managing the Ayrshire Breed Heritage programme.

Previously Duncan was Breed Manager for the Ayrshire Breed up until 2019.

As a breeder, Duncan bred and owned the Haresfoot herd of Pedigree Ayrshires and the Ashlyns herd of Pedigree Holsteins where much success was had over 30 years with impressive production and great show success, including many breed champions and several Interbreed champions at prestigious events such as the Royal Show, Dairy Farming Event, All Breeds All Britain calf show and the Southwest Dairy Show.

Duncan has officiated with multiple breeds over the years at many of the top UK shows throughout the United Kingdom including the Royal Highland, Great Yorkshire, Royal Balmoral, Welsh Dairy Show, Southwest Dairy Show, Royal Norfolk, UK Dairy Day, All Breeds All Britain Calf Show and many other local and county shows. Judging appointments have also taken him overseas to the International Dairy Week in Australia, National Ayrshire Show in South Africa, SRB National in Sweden, several shows in Finland including the Finn Dairy Expo and the Royal Jersey Agricultural Spring Show in Jersey. Duncan’s most recent judging appointment was the UK National Jersey Show in 2022.
